STORYLINE:
This year's Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ended on Tuesday night with thousands attending the Grand Gala Gay Ball at the city's la Scala Theatre/
The ball has been staged at the Scala for the last 12 years, and the event's proceeds goes to children with HIV and AIDS.
Each year tourists from around the world come to watch the spectacle.
"All these people look very good, actually. Well, the dresses and the outfits are amazing" said 27-year old Marc Flaanderen from Amsterdam, who is in Rio for carnival for the first time.
Inside the decorated theatre, guests danced to famous Brazilian carnival songs.
A group of friends from Cuba were among the happy crowd.
Cuban transvestite "Lolita" who was born Pedro Iglesias said Brazil was the best place to enjoy carnival.
"Brazil has the most important carnival in the world, where all the nationalities can get together" Iglesias said.
Over 680-thousand tourists arrived in Rio de Janeiro for this year's carnival.
30 percent of them were foreigners.
