High in the hollow trunk of a burned-out redwood tree a pair of condors is preparing to nest, and you’ll get to watch on explore.org.
A little more than 30 years ago, California condors were on the brink of extinction. In 1987, only 27 California condors remained alive. Thanks to the work of dedicated conservationists and staunch public support, the population of condors has rebounded to nearly 500 individuals. While this number represents a tremendous success, it also underscores that condors have a long way to go before they are no longer threatened with extinction.
