Part 3 covers the most spectacular section of the line. The surveyors of the line used all the usual engineering tricks such as spirals and tunnels to reach the summit of the line at 1267 metres above sea level making it the highest railway in Bulgaria.

Compared to my first visit in 2013, in 2019 there were many signs that the value of the line to attract tourists was now recognised. In many ways it has the potential to have a similar role to that of the Harz Railway in eastern Germany.
