"Even though HIV is not getting the headlines that it used to, we are in what might be the most pivotal year when it comes to the HIV/AIDS crisis," says Matt Kavanagh, UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director, Programme. "We are in the middle of multiple global crises, whether it's COVID or the war in Europe, whether it’s the war around the world, whether it's people being displaced. This is a moment when the HIV virus is actually at this tipping point. Do we continue progress or do we get deeply derailed. What's fascinating is that at the AIDS conference this year, we are going to have community and researchers back together in person for the first time in four years and it’s a key opportunity for us to see the new science. We are going to be releasing our new report at the AIDS conference. We are going to be convening at IAS and we are excited to see everyone be able to come back together to solve probably some of the hardest moments together in the AIDS response thus far. "
