Under the point of view of circular economy, the depolimerisation of a waste water bottle into its main component is presented.
The reaction is hydrolysis of polyethylene-terephthalate ( PET ) with sulfuric acid to terephthalic acid. This experiment is a good example of preparation of chemical from material of daily use and of common household chemical recycling.
