Nikki Hiltz, Transgender Runner, Qualifies for 2024 Olympics with Record-Breaking 1,500-Meter Performance
Nikki Hiltz, a transgender middle-distance runner, has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games after a remarkable performance in the women's 1,500-meter final. Hiltz won the race with a time of 3:55.33, breaking the previous U.S. trials record of 3:58:03 set by Elle St. Pierre in 2021. The event took place at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field during the U.S. Olympic track & field trials.
After the race, Hiltz expressed their joy and gratitude on Instagram. They described qualifying for the Olympics as a "childhood dream" come true and thanked their supporters. Hiltz, who uses they/them pronouns, felt overwhelmed by the love and support they received and were happy to be racing against people they admire and respect.
This will be Hiltz's first time competing in the Olympics. Earlier in the year, they won a silver medal at the Indoor World Championships, showcasing their talent on the international stage.
