The Top 5 Rock Bands of the 1970's:
It wouldn’t be called the golden era of rock ‘n roll for nothing.
The 1970s is often best remembered for spawning the biggest names in rock and records that would go on to achieve classic status. There was no shortage of talent for sure and no matter which brand of rock people subscribed to – hard rock, soft rock, Southern rock, country rock, heavy metal – there’s guaranteed to be something in it for everyone. The ‘60s became the jumping off point for these artists and they churned out landmark records which would later set the template for other bands to follow.
It was an interesting and exciting time in rock. There were still influences from the ‘50s and ‘60s but several rock acts also broke new sonic grounds, explored new studio techniques, and essentially proved they were well ahead of their time despite limitations in technology.
The 1970s boasted of diversity too as rock branched out into various subgenres. All things considered, it was challenging enough to stand out and be heard. It wasn’t enough to release less than stellar records. But like what these five bands showed us, they were indeed a cut above the rest.
For most of them, they arrived into the rock ‘n roll scene with a bang, announcing their arrival with stunning debut albums. And being formulaic was out of the question as they continuously searched for means to refine and perfect their sound.
It wasn’t long before they became titans in the genre – paving the way for other musicians. And of course, rock dominated the airwaves instead of being an underdog. Rockstars performed at sold-out stadiums, racking up astounding numbers in attendance. They broke records and made headlines.
These rock bands were definitely ahead of everyone else and they continue to influence today’s generation of musicians.
