From Banff to Jasper - Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure
Driving from Banff to Columbia Icefield is a scenic journey that takes you through the heart of the Canadian Rockies. You will follow the Icefields Parkway, one of the most beautiful roads in the world, and enjoy stunning views of mountains, glaciers, lakes, and waterfalls along the way.
The drive is about 253 kilometers long and takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes without stops. However, you will want to stop at some of the attractions that make this route so special, such as Lake Louise, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon, and Sunwapta Falls .
The Columbia Icefield is the largest icefield in the Rockies and covers an area of 325 square kilometers. It feeds eight major glaciers, including the Athabasca Glacier, which is the most accessible and visited glacier in North America .
At the Columbia Icefield, you can join the Columbia Icefield Adventure, which includes a ride on a massive Ice Explorer vehicle to the Athabasca Glacier and a walk on the glass-floored Skywalk over the Sunwapta Valley. You can also visit the Glacier Discovery Centre, which has exhibits, restaurants, and a gift shop.
The Columbia Icefield Adventure is open from May to October, weather permitting. You can book your tickets online or at the Glacier Discovery Centre. The adventure is a Destination Canada Canadian Signature Experience, featuring the best of Canada to the world.
