So the project continues, slowly but surely. The update has taken time as we've had a few day jobs we have been dealing with. As with all older cars, a day job turns into a 2 week job! So whilst stripping tha paint, I looked at the front tub and decided to remove the battery. As I did, the battery tray area was revealed, and it was in bad shape. So bad, that I decided I need to remove the fuel tank to see all the areas affected (If I'm going to repair it, the fuel tank needs to be removed anyway. (Fuel + welding heat and sparks is not good for your health! )
To remove the fuel tank, the fuel lines also need to be removed from underneath - a s whilst jacking up the car, I was hearing some scary crunching sounds which lead me to lower the car, and lift it again from a different location. It turns out, the front cross member below the tub is also in very bad shape.
This put me in a predicament, the job was only meant to be a body resto, and evidently it needs repairing too. Luckily I had spoken to the owner about the possibility of the vehicle needing rust repairs, and they were understanding about it. Had I not discussed this pre hand, it may have caused problems with costing.
I called the owner up and explained what I had found, and she agreed for me to dive in and uncover everything that's possibly hiding. Off with the wings! And that's where we are today.
Stay tuned for the official PT 3, where I will be removing the underseal and coatings from the inner wings, revealing the true extent of rust damage, and what repairs will be needed (fabrication or panel replacement)
