Speaker Biography:
John Frost is the product manager for the Thermo Scientific picoSpin NMR spectrometers at Thermo Fisher Scientific, Madison, WI. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in analytical and physical chemistry where his work contributed to multiple patents and a Master's degree in organic chemistry from Michigan Technological University. With a deep commitment to the education of the next generation of scientists, John has coauthored several papers in the Journal of Chemical Education, served as adjunct faculty, and actively participates in multiple outreach programs for high schools.

Although the three most common techniques: UV-Vis, FTIR, and NMR have not changed, the instrumentation found in the high school and undergraduate laboratory has evolved substantially in recent years. This webinar will briefly review the fundamentals of these three spectroscopic techniques, the instrumental advancements that have become more common, how they are utilized in the academic teaching laboratory, and examples of how they are being applied in current research and industrial applications.
