After floating this free-flowing river in Jon boat and scraping many rocks:

The riveted aluminum boat developed a slow leak which I believed resulted from chipping off old sealants I had applied to the rivets in the past. I therefore took everything off the boat and flipped it over to address the leak.
For prepping the surface I used a wire wheel on a power drill to clean each rivet and expose the bare aluminum. Then I used a propane torch to burn off anything I couldn't see. Finally I wiped the area around each cleaned rivet with an acetone soaked rag.
I used Bondo fiber glass resin and hardener which I painted onto the rivets followed by little squares of fiberglass mesh cloth and then a another coat of the resin.
