"I want to assure you that the Azhar is very happy to open its doors to your ideas and your enlightened readings, in order to support its message in spreading social peace, nationally, regionally and globally, and to insure global fraternity, and in spreading the true understanding of religion, in young minds, in order to save them from adopting extremists ideologies and calls to extremism and killing and bearing arms against peaceful people. I hope you will engage in discussions with Al-Azhar scholars and students, in order that we get to know each other, and you get to know us."

"I would like to talk about loyalty to your country, and especially at this crossroads in which Egypt and the whole Arab world is passing through. What you have to do is be ready for this responsibility which rests upon your shoulders, and always remember your duty to your country, which you will be asked about when you meet your Lord, and you are responsible for it, and there is no way out or negotiating about it, and history will remember your role, so make sure that the pages of your history are white and pure in the archives of history."

LEADIN:
The Grand Imam of Egypt's top religious institution has urged the country's youth to engage with students and scholars of Islam to help fight extremism.
The head of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayeb, was speaking to young people at Cairo University.
STORYLINE:
The auditorium is packed with Islamic scholars and students eager to hear what Ahmed El-Tayeb has to say.
As the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, he is one of Sunni Islam's most important figures.
He is at Cairo University to talk about tackling Islamic extremism.
He wants to welcome more young people to the institution.

At a time when militants are carrying out more sophisticated attacks in Egypt, the apparent spread of radicalism among youths in Cairo is a worrying sign for Egyptian authorities, who say they are working to quell violence.
Tuesday's talk sees El-Tayeb asking young people to look after their country for future generations.
