Every human body is like an open book. The key is knowing how to read it. Whether you're proposing to someone or selling goods to customers, body language often reveals more truth than words do. That's why I picked up six body language lessons from Joe Navarro's book, "What Every Body Is Saying."
To start, looking around can signal boredom. If a person looks around frequently while talking or continuously checks their phone and social media, it shows they are disinterested and looking for an excuse to leave.
Next, knee claps, which involve placing hands on knees and leaning forward slightly, suggest that the person wants to get out of the situation as soon as possible.
Another important cue is the direction of a person's feet. If their feet point towards you, they are probably interested in the conversation. If their feet point away, it indicates they might be ignoring you.
Clearing the throat before or after answering a question can mean the person is scared or trying to hide something.
Keeping hands in pockets during social interactions might seem stylish, but it actually indicates awkwardness or discomfort, making you appear insecure.
Lastly, eye pupils dilate when someone sees something they like, showing interest and alertness, while squinting indicates negative feelings.
Understanding body language improves interpersonal intelligence. While we can consciously control our words, our limbic brain manages body language unconsciously, making it harder to manipulate. By interpreting these nonverbal cues, you can better navigate social interactions and grasp others' true feelings
