This SL1200 MK2 has a wobbly platter, looks like it's "breathing". This probably is caused because the previous owner put the platter badly on the spindle. This caused tiny a burr in the precision-tapered hole, hence the platter cannot seat properly. Still played fine, but looks annoying. The only solution was actually to replace the platter with a new one (quite expensive, tho). I'll look for someone with the proper skills and machinery that could possibly re-file the hole and get rid of the bump...
Other causes I read of, in order of ease to fix:
1. platter not seated correctly due to something stuck in the spindle and the platter (dirt, dust, hairs, stuff)
2. loose screws on the spindle locking mount (rocks when moved with fingers)
3. bent spindle shaft (removing the platter, rotate 180°, place the platter - ondulation peak at a different position). Need new spindle.
4/1. hole damage due to badly slapped platter on the spindle. Repositioning the platter, ondulation peak is always at same position. Need new platter.
4/2. warped or bent platter, due to heavy mistreatment. Repositioning the platter, ondulation peak is always at same position. The platter placed onto a perfectly straight surface (e.g. glass table) shows a warp. Need new platter.
I've also read something related to magnet misalignment, causing a magnetic propulsion upwards, but seems less likely.
Remember: this is a precision machined platter with really strict tolerances, which makes it sensible to mistreatment. Also the magnet found below, it's fragile and does not exist and official replacement. And guess what, since last month new platters from Panasonics now costs around 350€ each.
