A US army airborne unit landed in the Congo on Sunday (23/3),
across the river from the Zairean capital Kinshasa, to prepare
for the possible evacuation of foreigners from neighbouring
Zaire.
In his first public appearance since returning to Kinshasa two
days ago, President Mobutu Sese Seko vowed on Sunday to stop his
country falling apart at the hands of rebels who have swept
across much of eastern Zaire.
