Hello ! My name is Sara García, and I'm from Benejúzar, a small town of Alicante (Spain), and this is my 'infinite place'... start video.
The people dance 'La Jota', next to the 'Virgen del Pilar', going up to the mountain of the town, where is 'El Santuario', the infinite place I'm talking about, and she sleeps all the year till next 12th October.
This place and also the mountain it's only used once a year for this celebration. With my architectural point of view, I'm studying the way to re-use multidisciplinary activities. So... We will have the town active all year.
- Location of the building: Benejúzar (Alicante - Spain)
- Qualities of the space: Relaxing area, social space, where in the 12th October all the people is reunited to dance, and be part of the tradition of the town.
- Pre-existing spatial qualities and how this can be adaptable to new uses: change the idea of using this space only once a year, so it can be a space with multifunctional in terms of -not depending on the 'part of the year'- itself.
- Process of transformation (who is "inhabiting" the building and how?): the building it’s ‘alone’ all the year. It’s not abandoned because of the religion of the town… But in my point of view, it’s abandoned by all the people that lives there. We have there a good potencial so… Why don’t we use it?
What do we mean for infinite places?
"Infinite places are pioneering places that explore and experiment with collective processes for dwelling in the world and for building community.''
So, for me, this is an open place of freedom and the search for alternatives.
