Key concepts
1. CR1 or CD35 is a membrane-bound regulatory protein that protect host cells from Complement-mediated attack.
2. CR1 has a co-factor activity for factor I to cleave C3b and C4b to form inactive form of C3b (iC3b) and inactive form of C4b (iC4b) , respectively.
3. CR1 also has a decay accelerating activity: Helps remove C2b and Bb from the C3 convertases of CP/LP and AP, respectively.
CP= Classical pathway; LP= lectin pathway; AP= Alternative pathway.
