2025 Kia EV5 Revealed - More Modern and More Powerful
Details about the Kia EV5 were revealed during the company's first annual EV Day, including the introduction of a GT version and various other specifications. The Korean automaker confirmed the powertrain specifications and announced that this mid-sized SUV would be available in markets outside China, as reported by Carscoops on Thursday.
First showcased to the public at the Chengdu Motor Show in China in August, the EV5 is the third offering in Kia's electric vehicle lineup, positioned below the EV6 and borrowing much of its styling from the larger EV9. A "GT" version of the Kia EV5 is also in development, although Kia has not yet disclosed a launch timeline or specific details about its specifications or market availability.
Initially, the EV5 will be available in China, with a global rollout planned later. The Chinese market version will be produced locally and offered in three variants: Standard, Long Range, and Long Range AWD. The global models, manufactured in Korea, will also have similar variants but with different specifications.
In China, the Standard model will feature a 64 kWh battery paired with a 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor, providing a range of 530 km. The global Standard model will have a smaller 58 kWh battery but will also use the same 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor with front-wheel drive. The 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor will also power the Long Range models in both China and global markets, with the difference being the battery size. Chinese consumers will get an 88 kWh battery offering a CLTC range of 720 km, while other markets will receive an 81 kWh battery, with the estimated range yet to be announced.
Both the Chinese and Korean versions of the EV5 Long Range AWD will include a secondary 70 kW (95 PS / 94 hp) motor to drive the rear axle. However, the Chinese model will have a slightly higher combined output of 230 kW (313 PS / 308 hp) compared to the global model's 225 kW (306 PS / 302 hp). Kia also noted that the Chinese-made EV5 will have DC fast charging capability, allowing it to charge from 30 to 80 percent in 27 minutes.
All EV5 models will come equipped with a heat pump similar to the one in the EV6, and Kia's i-Pedal system will enable one-pedal driving. Inside the cabin, the 2025 Kia EV5 will feature the latest interface from the brand, applied across all screens for seamless connectivity. There will be two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, along with a separate 5.0-inch climate control display.
