The French automaker, Peugeot, has unveiled the third-generation Peugeot 3008, marking a significant step forward in terms of electric powertrains and interior technology. This latest iteration comes seven years after the previous model debuted in Europe, signaling a new era for Peugeot's best-selling vehicle.
The all-new Peugeot 3008 makes its entrance in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the E-3008, and mild-hybrid powertrains will follow suit. What sets this C-segment crossover apart is its use of the STLA Medium platform, developed by Stellantis, the parent company of Peugeot, making it the first series production model to adopt this platform. The vehicle will be available in two trim levels, Allure and GT, with three optional packages and three electric powertrain choices.
The primary powertrain option is equipped with a 400-volt nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) 73-kilowatt-hour (net) battery pack. A front-mounted permanent synchronous electric motor produces 210 horsepower (157 kilowatts) and 253 pound-feet (343 Newton-meters) of torque. This powertrain offers an estimated driving range of 326 miles (525 km) on a full charge.
For those seeking more power, a dual-motor version is available. It utilizes the same 73 kWh battery and front motor as the single-motor variant but adds a 111 hp (83 kW)/122 lb-ft (166 Nm) electric motor on the rear axle. This configuration delivers a combined power output of 320 hp (240 kW) and the same 326-mile (525 km) driving range. Notably, the rear motor may feature a disconnect system for specific driving conditions.
Additionally, a long-range version is offered, equipped with a larger 98 kWh (net) battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor generating 230 hp (170 kW) and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque. This setup allows for a remarkable maximum range of 435 miles (700 km) on a full charge. However, it's worth noting that this battery size does not offer a dual-motor option.
To enhance the driving experience, various driving modes are available, including a 4WD mode for the dual-motor variant, which distributes power to all four wheels in slippery road conditions, albeit at speeds limited to 83 miles per hour (135 kilometers per hour).
When it comes to charging, the Peugeot 3008 EV features a rear left mudguard charging port compatible with both AC and DC charging. For AC charging, the standard onboard charger can accept up to 11 kW from a three-phase source, with an optional 22 kW three-phase unit available. On the DC front, the E-3008 can accept up to 160 kW from a compatible stall, allowing for rapid charging from 20 percent state of charge (SoC) to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. This applies to both the standard battery and the extended-range variant.
Moreover, the Peugeot 3008 benefits from vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, enabling users to export power from the high-voltage battery via the charging plug for household appliances or other applications at up to 3 kW and 16 amps (A). The vehicle also incorporates V1G smart charging, which integrates with the owner's household energy supplier to optimize charging time and reduce costs.
In terms of dimensions, the all-electric Peugeot 3008 measures 178 inches (454 centimeters) in length, 74 inches (189 cm) in width, and 64 inches (164 cm) in height. It maintains Peugeot's signature three-clawed light design both at the front and rear, featuring an enlarged logo on the closed-off grille and smaller headlights positioned between the hood and frameless grille.
Inside the cabin, the highlight of the Peugeot E-3008 is the expansive i-Cockpit 21-inch curved widescreen display atop the dashboard, serving as both a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen. However, the Allure trim features a different setup, consisting of two 10-inch screens integrated into a single support. Below the central screen, virtual and touch-sensitive buttons, known as i-Toggles, offer full customization.
All trim levels come with standard seat heating, and the front seats receive the AGR (Aktion fur Gesunder Rucken) designation, signifying their ergonomic design endorsed by the German association of Doctors and therapists specializing in back pain. Optionally, front seats can be equipped with ventilation, a massage function, and adaptive side bolsters that adjust to the passenger's size.
Cargo space in the Peugeot E-3008 varies depending on the drivetrain, with the all-wheel drive version offering 470 liters of trunk volume and the front-wheel drive variant providing 520 liters. Additionally, there are 17 different storage compartments throughout the interior, totaling 34 liters of additional storage capacity.
Production of the third-generation Peugeot 3008 will take place at the Stellantis factory in Sochaux, France, where the battery packs are also assembled. Deliveries are expected to commence in Europe and other markets by the end of the year.
