This third video is a continuation of Video 2 of the DD-120, Shiranui, Asahi class..
After finishing the hull, the props, rudders, the main deck, all of the main parts of the super structure and all of the weapons (ASM Missiles x 8, 1 x Mk-141 carrying 128 ESSM Missiles, 1 5" gun, 2 x Phalanx CIWS, the Japanese Seahawk helicopter, all of the life-buoys, and the large chain for the anchors...I began adding the many and important details all over the ship.
This included the ships launches, behind the main mast and bridge, one on each side. One is a large fixed hull, the other is smaller and non-rigid hull. I also added the cranes for loading the anti-shipping missiles, many radomes and other electronics, especially on the helicopter hanger and the main mast, but also around the bridge. I also needed to add important equipment aft near the end of the shio, included equipment associated with the towed sonar array, equipment to allow UNREP, or Underway Replenishment. Also added equipment near the bow for the anchors and chains and added the anchors.
The launchers for the Infrared decoys were also added. These are on the starboard and port side just forward of the hanger.
Added lots of video cameras above the aft and forward end of the hanger, as well as on the bridge and just below the main mast. These ships have a lot of high grade video surveillance, most of them including infrared too.
Finally I added a lot of antennae and other equipment and finally finished the decals for the rest of the ship. The pennant number, the name, lots of decals identifying and markers for the H-60J JMSDF Sea Hawk helo and the JMSDF Fire Scout UMVL helicopter.
There were a LOT of parts in this portion of the build and they took a long time to get placed properly and correctly aligned. But Arts Technique models are great at that, with very well built and molded parts, whether resin, plastic, or metal.
As you can tell from this video, she is looking very good.
The next video will finish her. I have about 150 metal parts to add, especially all of the railing which has been cut to fit, which is nice along with a lot of equipment located on the mast and along the top of the model.
I intend to have one other video as I continue and finish the JS Shiranui DD-120. Part of their 25DD project.
As I said in the first video, I thought some folks might want to see a model like this and how it is put together.
Designed as more Japanese "AEGIS" vessels of their own make, with dual band radar and the capability of Cooperative Engagement with JMSDF Kongo and Atago AEGIS destroyers, with Akizuki and the other Asahi destroyer, and with US AEGIS destroyers and cruisers.
They were specifically designed with a stronger ASW capability, and to (along with the Akizuki class) to escort Hyuga class and Izumo class carriers, as well as Atago class AEGIS DDGs performing Intercontinental Missile defense missions, supporting them with their strong air defense of 128 ESSM missiles in a 32 cell MK-141 VLS system.
These are very modern and very capable ships. Very squared away.
So, that's the second description of the model and I hope you enjoy it and the follow on video.
Thanks for watching as I put her together. She's a great model and will be near museum quality when I finish her. Tell your friends and subscribe if you haven't already...tell your friends to subscribe too.
With this vessel, the JMSDF has completed its various projects on the hull form that started with the Murasami, moved to the Tachanami, the Azikui and now the Asahi class, and this vessel, DD-120, the last of two of that class. Thee were all built to be modern destroyers all displacing from 6200 to 6800 tons and all built to escort the larger major ships like the Hyuga and Izumi carriers or the Osumi LHDs and the Uraga mine command ships.
They are well armed, have decent stealth characteristics and the last three classes include a Japanese form of AEGIS with dual band APARs and the capability to do Cooperative Engagement with the true AEGIS ships of the JMSDF, the Kongo, the two Atago, and the two advanced Atago (The Maya Class), and the US AEGIS ships.
There classes using the hull form are the:
Murasami Class - 9 ships
Takanami Class - 5 ships
Akizuki Class - 4 Ships
ASahi Class (Modified Akizuki Class) - 2 Ships
That's Twenty very capable destroyers.
The AEGIS Ships:
Kongo AEGIS (similar to Flight II US Burke class) - 4 ships
Atago Class (Similar to Flight IIA Burke Class) - 2 Ships
Maya Class (Advanced similar to Flight III Class Burke) - 2 chips
That's eight very strong large AEGIS destroyers ranging from 9,500 tons to 10,500 tons.
