Daily Water Requirement For Kidney patients
In a kidney disease patient, one of the most common issue that can be seen is water retention. Because of the decreased kidney functioning, excess water is not processed and flushed out resulting in its accumulation.
Usually the excess fluid gets accumulated in the legs which causes swelling as well as pain. The complications arise when this fluid starts to travel from the legs to the lungs. This can result in the collapse of the lungs as well as create a sense of drowning.
Therefore the fluid intake for any patient depends on the stage of the disease as well as several other factors like climate, skin, and profession. It is not the same for every patient. For example if you live in a hot climate, the body will lose more water as compared to if you live in a clod climate. Hence, the amount of water to be consumed will also change.
It is advised to limit the water intake to 500 ml in a day for patients with water retention and around 100 ml at a go for people who do not have water retention. It is also important to keep a tab of how much a person is urinating as with having water, it is important that a patient passes urine so there is no water retention.
