Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek said in a Saturday morning update that she had “excellent news” regarding the ongoing repairs of damaged pipes, after a water main break prompted restrictions and a local state of emergency.
“The cutting and removal of [the] damaged pipe was completed yesterday. This is a significant milestone and it begins our transition from pipe removal towards pipe installation,” Gondek said. “Welding started yesterday and it continues through the weekend.”
Gondek added that the July 5th target for completing repairs is “still very much in play” and reminded residents that an outdoor watering ban was still in place despite a weekend of sunny weather. Officials have set a target of wrapping up repair work before the start of the Calgary Stampede, which runs July 5-14.
“We've been at this water-saving thing for two weeks now, and there's about two weeks to go, so we can do this. Calgary, I know you've got this in you,” Gondek said.
