This film in 3 parts tells the story of the life and art of Le Pho (1907-2001) an artist born in Viet Nam who lived and worked in France after WW2. It includes the story of his art education at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine in Hanoi where he was mentored by Victor Tardieu. The artist traveled to Paris in 1931 to serve as an art director at the Exposition Coloniale Internationale, exposing him to the Louvre collection and European art. Further travels, to China, Italy and Belgium deepened Le Pho's knowledge of art and shaped the hybrid quality of his own paintings. After the war, Le Pho grew famous and began to show and sell his work in the United States at the Wally Findlay Gallery. His best known subjects, women and flowers, radiate innocence and purity, connecting his life and art to early memories of Viet Nam. This film was produced by the Le Pho Art Gallery which buys and sells the work of Le Pho: www.lephoartgallery.com
