You may vaguely remember that back in 1996 a movie called ISLAND OF DOCTOR MOREAU was released, starring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. It was not a hit, and it was rightly savaged by critics. What you may not know is that the original director, Richard Stanley, a young man with a fascinating vision for the film, was fired from the film, hid out in the jungle near the location, and was snuck onto the set by the sex and drug crazed, latex clad extras, and disguised as one of the marauding dog-men for the duration of the shoot. This documentary tells Stanley's side of the story. It is about the duelling madnesses of Hollywood and the jungle. Along the way there are gripping character portraits of Marlon Brando (who considered his whole career a kind of prank at this point) and Kilmer (whose Big-Star attitude seems funny in retrospect).
