CARTOON EVOLUTION #10

I take a look at the history and evolution of Marvin the Martian, the soft-spoken, easily frustrated, curious antagonistic creation of animator Chuck Jones – developed as a one-time villain for Bugs Bunny. With a desire to blow up Planet Earth he is, arguably, the most dangerous Looney Tunes villain. Surprisingly, Marvin only appeared in five shorts during the Golden Age of Animation, though through a series of social movements and pop culture shifts, Marvin managed to become a key character in the Looney lexicon and an iconic fan favourite star in recent decades.
I take a look at how Marvin (originally called Antwerp) has evolved alongside Warner Bros. other popular characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig and how animators changed his look, appearance and personality over time.
