Royal International Air Tattoo 2015
Making a welcome return to the Air Tattoo this summer is the only remaining airworthy Vulcan bomber - the delta-winged Vulcan XH558. Named The Spirit of Great Britain it enjoyed a 33-year career in the RAF, including service during the Falklands War. Along with the Valiant and the Victor, the three aircraft comprised the Royal Air Force's legendary V-bomber force, designed to protect the UK from nuclear threat from the 1950s to the 1980s.
The aircraft ended its flying career in 1992 but was then fully restored to flying status in 2007 as part of an ambitious restoration project supported by a £2.5 million grant from the Lottery Fund, a £500,000 donation from philanthropist Jack Hayward, funds raised by commercial sponsors plus contributions from more than 20,000 members of the public.
Vulcan XH558, the most iconic aircraft of the Cold War era will be at this summer's Royal International Air Tattoo as part of the Air Tattoo's theme 'Securing The Skies - Past, Present, Future'.
At the request of VTTS to maximise the presence of the Vulcan at the Air Tattoo she will now be flying into the show on Thursday 16 July, on static display all day Friday 17 July and taking part in the flying display on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July.
