20 April 1943: Three days after the beginning of operation NEPTUNE gains have been minimal. Despite minimal enemy presence, less than ideal weather conditions have severely impacted the accuracy and effectiveness of dive bombing missions aimed at the Soviet bridgehead at Myskhako. Today, 4th Gebirgs Division and 125th Infantry Division supported by assault guns and newly set up artillery batteries will renew the assault in the central sector of the front between Fedotovka and Novorossiysk (1319.1). Luftflotte 4 is to continue to provide aerial support with maximum effort pointed towards holding air superiority above the advancing troops.
Further north, near Krymskaya (1121) the defending troops are regularly calling in for air support, primarily against artillery positions, which are outside of the counterbarrage range.
The enemy air forces were reported to be understrength and not a major threat, mostly operating in disorganised groups against targets of no strategic significance - no major air activity has been detected so far.
