Color values are typically defined as how light or dark a color is. But, let’s not limit a colors value to its percentage of white or black. What about the richness of the color? Some shades of purple are not light or dark but, instead they are rich in red or blue. The plum and berry colors that we mixed, back in episode 6, are a perfect example of this.
Why are color values helpful in color mixing?
It is helpful to have a chart or create a chart of color values to familiarize yourself with different shades of the colors you love. You might find that you don’t like pink when it’s a 50/50, red/white mixture. Instead, you prefer a 20/80, red/white mixture. In depth color mixing of tertiary colors and their values may lead you to develop a mixture of lime green or plum that you want in your customized artist palette.
Experimentation with color mixing leads to amazing discoveries.
