The lapping stone was used previously so the first thing was to recondition it with 16 grin aluminium oxide loose abrasive grain on glass.
The stone is made from black silicon carbide and crushes the aluminium oxide grain very fast.
You will see using the stone with and without additional abrasive grain.
The manufacturer recommended adding abrasive grain for faster grinding.
After trying that my opinion is that it will work when the surface of the lapping stone is worn / smothered from use.
With freshly reconditioned stone the only small difference I saw was a little bit smoother surface - no major change in the flattening speed.
The lapping speed is good.
The only noticeable difference with lapping with abrasive grain on glass and using diamond plates is the final condition of the stone surface - there are deeper scratches with the naniwa lapping stone than the other two ways.
