Written by the acclaimed songwriting team of Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the first known release of this song was by Maxine Brown in 1964, and it became a Top 30 hit. Since then the song has been remade a number of times by artists such as Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, Manfred Mann, Aretha Franklin, Cher, Debby Boone, and more. In 1980, the great Carole King herself did her own version of Oh No Not My Baby, and her version is actually my favorite version of the song. While Carole's version was released as a single, it did not chart, which was truly baffling--I really love the arrangement used in her version, and the instrumental break with strings and keyboards is just lovely; it's yet another song that I thought deserved to be a bigger hit.
