Heiskanen was drafted third overall by the Stars at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Heiskanen is smart and poised, and about as safe an early pick as you'll find. That's not a knock -- the guy is a two-way stud who just doesn't make a mistake. Heiskanen played in Liiga, Finland's top pro league last season and more than held his own. At 17. He played on the team's top pair at even strength and his coach was quick to say Heiskanen was his best blueliner. Yes, at 17. Heiskanen is a left shot, but plays the right side and that's a huge advantage for the Stars. Heiskanen's poise, smarts and skill put him in the same class as a Nick Leddy or Anton Stralman. Fantasy-wise, he's not the top D in the 2017 draft class. But Heiskanen will be the most valuable D on a Cup-winning squad.
