Historic Fairview Cemetery hosted a free workshop with noted gravestone and monument conservator Jonathan Appell. This short video shows how to clean a stone marker and how to re-set a large headstone that had fallen over.
As part of his 48 State Tour to restore historic cemeteries, Appell was in Albuquerque to teach interested people about effective gravestone cleaning techniques, and how to repair and re-set markers. He has more than 20 years of experience preserving historic monuments. The 48 State Tour is hosted by Atlas Preservation ([ Ссылка ])
There was a short walk and talk tour of Historic Fairview Cemetery, and a discussion of historic preservation, focused on masonry, cemeteries and gravestones. The cleaning demonstrations included the correct way to remove dirt, graffiti, rust and calcium staining. The stone that was re-set weighed more than 1,000 pounds.
Albuquerque’s Historic Fairview Cemetery, established in 1881, is the final resting place of approximately 12,000 people. Its nonprofit organization works to preserve the cemetery and share local history through the lives of its permanent residents. @GailRubin is the president of the organization.
