Comparison of five micro bass combos - some with built in amps, some without: First round with tone controls set flat, second round with my favorite sound (exept for the Glockenklang, which is my reference speaker). Volume always on the same level. The Bose isn't a real bass amp - but for small gigs with an acoustic band it works fine. If it get's louder it's the wrong choice. The Acoustic Image Upshot is kind of special, because the sound you hear is not direct (that's why this model is called upshot...). But especially double bass players like it. And it's very tiny :-)
The five Combos:
1. Phil Jones Double Four BG-75
2. Bose S1 Pro
3. Glockenklang Acoustic 8-1 (with Eich T-300 Amp)
4. GR Bass GR206 (with GR Mini one)
5. Acoustic Image Upshot (with Warwick Gnome)
What you hear is a small loop which I played on my Godin Fretless Bass with Flatwound Strings. I used different small amps for the cabs, but the tonal differences of the cabs are much bigger! It's better to listen with headphones to hear the differences in bass properly. Hope it helps you to find the right small Combo for yourself :-)
