The U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954 called for ending school segregation "with all deliberate speed." This compilation of videos from TAMI's collection provides four examples of how that 1954 decision was only the start of a long and arduous process. The video includes footage related to Dallas' school desegregation efforts in 1961, a check-in with Houston's progress in 1961 and 1964, and 1980 news coverage of desegregation issues in Odessa.
NOTE: Clips in this video use dated language to describe African Americans, indicative of the time in which they were produced. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image does not condone the use of the terms, but presents these clips as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as to claim this term never existed.
Educators: Use this video along with TAMI's Making the National Whole Lesson plan for High School ([ Ссылка ]) or Middle School ([ Ссылка ]) to address TEKS in Texas and US History.
