Most of the wheat planted after rice crop is at booting stage these days. 2nd irrigation in some parts of rice zone or 3rd irrigation is due in most other parts of Punjab, wheat crop has been planted after rice. Weather forecast indicates that windy weather is likely to prevail from 22-26 of February which is also associated with light rainfall. Keeping this weather scenario in view, it is suggested that water application should be delayed until this spell of rains is over. However, irrigation may be applied as usual in late planted or sparsus wheat crop of in south Punjab. However, in case of bumper crop in any stage, in view of windy weather, irrigation should also be delayed until the end of this spell of clouds.
Changing weather and climate conditions have made different changes in production technology of wheat and other crops. Due to prevailing weather condition, irrigation schedule of wheat crop in rice zone has changed a lot due to already present moisture in the soil. Over irrigation may reduce the over all production. Irrigation should be done according to weather forecast in a specific region and area.
