History of the Moscow Mule:
The Moscow Mule, a refreshing and zesty cocktail, traces its roots back to the United States in the 1940s. The story goes that three friends – John G. Martin, Jack Morgan, and Rudolph Kunett – came together with the intention of promoting their respective products: vodka, ginger beer, and copper mugs. They combined these ingredients, added a splash of lime, and the Moscow Mule was born.
The name "Moscow Mule" was coined due to the association of vodka with Russia and the kick of the ginger ale (or ginger beer). The cocktail gained popularity not only for its unique flavor but also for being served in distinctive copper mugs that kept the drink wonderfully chilled.
Classic Moscow Mule Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 oz vodka
4-6 oz ginger ale
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Ice cubes
Mint sprig for garnish
Modern Moscow Mule Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 oz vodka
4-6 oz ginger beer
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Ice cubes
Lime wedge for garnish
Instructions:
Fill a copper mug (or a highball glass) with ice cubes.
Pour 2 ounces of vodka over the ice.
Squeeze half an ounce of fresh lime juice into the mug.
Top off the mixture with 4-6 ounces of Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer, depending on your taste preference.
Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
Garnish with a lime wedge or a sprig of fresh mint (or both!).
