French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed his popular and youthful education minister Gabriel Attal as the prime minister in order to prepare for the next European elections and revitalize his second term, which has been impeded by a divided parliament.
The Élysée Palace officially announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday, stating that Attal will now assemble his team of advisors.
At the age of 34, Attal will become the youngest French prime minister in history and the first openly gay individual to hold the position. Attal's political approach is notably more pronounced than that of Élisabeth Borne, the technocratic former prime minister who resigned on Monday. Borne was only the second woman to have ever held the job.
