Bye Bye Sciatica: Piriformis Massage Technique
Massage can offer several benefits for the piriformis muscle, which is located deep within the buttocks and is commonly associated with sciatic nerve pain. Most massage therapists treat the piriformis muscle and the other external hip rotators in a prone position. This isn’t necessarily the best approach. As an alternative, Erik Dalton suggests doing massage to the piriformis in a sidelying position. In this video Dalton shows you the positioning he typically uses for piriformis treatment, how to identify the muscle in this position, and lastly how to use the forearm to produce drag on the tissue.
