Vieux Chateau Certan is one of the most renown right bank Bordeaux estates, producing world class Merlot:Cabernet Franc wines (with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon on occasion). Guided by owner/vintner Alexander Thienpoint since the mid 1980's (also the winemaker at Le Pin), Vieux Chateau Certan has been firing on all cylinders since the 2000 vintage, climaxing with the heralded back to back '09 & '10 vintages. In fact, Alex told us that he's never seen two such back to backs in his lifetime, believing that you need to harken back to the 1950's and 40's to find such occurrences.
In this video we tasted the 2006, a classic wine that actually rivals the fantastic 2005. As you'll see, the '06 while "lost" between the '05 and the '09 & '10, is a gorgeous wine with a very bright and long future. It's a wine that begs to be paired with a gamy, mushroom dish. I swear that you can taste Alexander's precision and concentration in his wines
While you need to strain at times to hear Alex in the video, his voice very soft and humble, it's worth the effort. He's world class.
