A letter sent to the White House tested positive for cyanide at an off-site mail screening facility on Tuesday.
The letter reportedly contained an unidentified milky substance in a container wrapped in a plastic bag, according to the Intercept. Chemical testing confirmed the substance to be cyanide.
The Secret Service did not release to whom the envelope was addressed to.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, the Secret Service will have no additional comment,” the New York Times quoted a statement from the agency.
The envelope listed a return address for a man who reportedly has a record with the Secret Service dating back to 1995 which includes sending a package covered in urine and feces, the Intercept reported.
