Quick Portrait tips with the T4i/T5i (applicable to all cameras)

"Shooting on the border" The wider your aperture(smaller number) and the greater your focal length equals the shallowest depth of field which gives the nice background blur. So set camera on AV mode, widest aperture for widest focal length. With the 18-135 stm lens that is f/3.5. Start to zoom, find those points on the lens where the aperture changes to the next higher number and backup just enough to get back to the one lower. The example in the video is at 70mm you can still shoot at f/5.0. If that is too zoomed for you find the spot where the camera switches from f/4.5 to f/5.0 and shoot at f/4.5. Or the border of f/4.0 and f/4.5. You also want to get nice and close to your subject, the closer you are the shallower your depth of field.
