Me and my friend decided to climb mount Teide in Tenerife at night to see if it is worth watching a sunrise from almost 4000 metres above the sea level.
We started at 2am with a cup of tea before heading on a trail. The first kilometre or so was pretty easy and not too steep but as we had to climb more than a 1000 metres it quickly became more challenging.
Around 5 am we arrived to the refuge at 3260m and met a bunch of other adventurers keen on seeing the famous pyramid in the sea. After a quick break and a change of clothes we started climbing further. The last part is one of the most challenging and we were racing with the sun to catch the sunrise just in time. The view on both sides was absolutely spectacular and soon after the sun was out we all turned west to admire the shadow of mount Teide over the ocean - a truly unique sighting! From there we waited until the cable car opens before heading down but the question is would you stay up all night to watch a sunrise from Spain’s tallest volcano?
