In this series, I hope to bring to light a few games overshadowed by more popular titles.
Instead of getting preachy, I let the games speak for themselves. These segments aim to highlight what makes these games worthy of mention, and hopefully a few more people will get to experience them.

A special thanks to my partner Mowtendoo for controlling the Jeep.
Firepower 2000. A name that doesn't ring a bell to even the most avid schmup enthusiast. The distant spiritual successor to the venerable classic Silk Worm, Sunsoft released this game to the over-saturated Snes market causing many to scratch their heads. From the generic title to the benign boxart, it wasn't really an eye-catcher at retail. Lousy advertising didn't help much.
In reality it's a very solid game that features a top down perspective and in the spirit of Silk Worm a co-op team benefits from covering each others weaknesses by using their strengths. One a jeep, susceptible to all manner of ground attacks, but safe from most air and has the ability to fire in all directions and jump. The other vulnerable to air collisions but able to move faster while only being able to shoot in one direction.
Excellent graphics, mostly non existant animations arguably bad sounds (I think they are adequate, like most Sunsoft games), but very good and challenging gameplay. There are a lot of nuances to minimize losses and a good array of highly destructive weapons that can be upgraded up to six times.
It's a game that will give you a run for your money, and is likely to impress you with it's understated attention to detail.
