Angry protesters are calling for a new government to take control in Sri Lanka, following violent clashes in the capital Colombo on Monday.
The violence broke out as government supporters began to attack protesters with wooden and iron poles.
Eight people have died and more than 200 were injured in the clashes which prompted Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to resign.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called for calm.
But the Defense Ministry has ordered armed forces to open fire on anyone instigating violence, including looting property or causing harm to others.
Sri Lanka has been suffering its worst economic crisis in history, with a severe shortage of foreign exchange stalling essential imports, including medicine and fuel.
