This Painting time-lapse shows how I Airbrush Graffiti lettering on shirts. I'm using createx colors here with a siphon fed airbrush at about 45psi.
Notice I first space out my letters, ensuring there's plenty of space for everything to fit. then, I go back and add some style to the letters. I play with the interaction between letters, and try to find/create some symmetry.
Then I cut in a nice black outline, defining the final placement of the letters. I work left to right, while always looking ahead to plan which parts of particular letters will overlap others. I want the most important and interesting parts to be on top - this is to improve composition and increase legibility.
The next steps vary often. basically, fill it and add a background. add some shading if desired, and almost always set it off with some white highlights.
