(14 Dec 2015) Many Parisians said they were relieved on Monday morning after the National Front (NF) failed to pick up a single victory in France's regional elections.
Marine Le Pen's far-right party hopes to take power collapsed on Sunday, failing to take any of the six regions it had dominated during the first round of voting on 6 December.
However, the centre-right party, The Republicans, surged against the governing Socialist Party, which nonetheless changed France's political outlook. In some regions to Socialist Party dropped out of the polls, leading more voters to side with The Republicans against the NF.
The failure of the NF to make any gains didn't stop the anti-immigration party from looking to use its rising sway towards the 2017 presidential election - Le Pen's ultimate goal.
