Side effects of gendered racism include: being labeled as angry or a bully, microaggressive comments about your hair, and presumed incompetence. Tristen Johnson sheds light on a topic that many Black women who work professionally in higher education experience on a daily. The time is now to work to combat a phenomenon that has systematically impacted Black women professionals. Tristen Johnson is the Assistant Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She holds a masters degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University. She is currently working on her PhD at Illinois State University. She is an advocate for social justice and has an interest in research about Black women professionals in Higher Education. Her favorite movie of all time is the Lion King!
