[ Ссылка ] - Patients with mitral regurgitation, a leaking heart valve, should be aware of the related cardiac diseases that may develop or progress as a result of mitral valve disease. These cardiac conditions include atrial fibrillation (AFib), coronary artery disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
That said, patients have important questions about mitral valve regurgitation and stroke risk. For example, Michael recently asked HeartValveSurgery.com, “I am diagnosed with moderate to severe mitral regurgitation. I recently had a stroke while on a bike ride and crashed. The most of obvious causes of stroke have been eliminated. AFib is a consideration but not proven at this point. My question is, “Can mitral regurgitation cause a stroke?”
We interviewed Dr. Michael Acker, the Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to answer Michael's question. During his career, Dr. Acker has performed over 9,000 cardiac procedures with more than 3,000 operations involving heart valve therapies. Dr. Acker is a mitral valve specialist.
