Comic Chat. David Kurlander. Microsoft Research. January 1996. Duration: 6:27.
David (DJ) Kurlander developed Comic Chat as an experiment in automatic illustration and alternative visualizations for chat programs. He started this effort at Microsoft Research in the fall of 1995, and in 1996, was recruited to join a product group to productize it. Comic Chat shipped millions of copies as part of Internet Explorer downloads and on the Windows '98, NT 5, and MSN 2, and it had many, many users.
