Wednesday's display was reminiscent of scenes in Chechnya or Afghanistan.

0016
Members of special anti-terrorism units dropped from helicopters, demonstrating how they might arrive in hostile territory.
0024
The action was all staged for show - but looked real enough to demonstrate Russia's commitment to the fight against terrorism.

The display was timely - Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, is in the US for talks with George W Bush, whose administration has been full of praise for Russia's help since the attacks of September 11th.
Russia hopes the close relationship will continue - with rewards for both sides.
